Aromatherapy Recipes Explained

Aromatherapy, the use of essential oils for healing, has been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Back then, use of different aromatherapy recipes had been a part of healing of the sick, relief of what ailed the people. In modern times, aromatherapy is enjoying a renewed interest or popularity since the “rediscovery” of this form of healing by the French chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé. Having been burned by a chemical explosion, Gattefossé used a lavender oil-based treatment to cure the gas gangrene on his hand. Today, we can see different aromatherapy recipes use essential oils in different situations: from relaxation to healing or alleviating symptoms of different ailments.

Essential oils are usually of plant origin and are extracted from specific parts like the leaves, fruits, seeds, and cortex of different trees or plants. Examples of the more common types of these essential oils are patchouli oil, peppermint oil, oregano oil, basillicum oil, balsam oil, cardamom oil, cumin oil, clove oil, and lavender oil. A combination of varying essential oils is commonly used in treatment using aromatherapy.

There are different aromatherapy recipes available for use. There are even internet websites that describe such recipes in detail. The common recipes are meant for relief of ailments of skin disorders and hair disorders, improvers of bodily functions, mood enhancement. Some aromatherapy recipes even claim to improve your home by acting as repellents against insects like moths and mosquitoes.

While there are different aromatherapy recipes available, the most common or easiest means of treatment using aromatherapy oils is through the use of diffusers. Diffusers present an efficient means of distributing the molecules of essential oils commonly found in aromatherapy recipes.

Diffusers come in several types. The easiest and most common that one can find is in the form of aromatherapy candles. Another common type is the lamp ring, a lamp with a container for the essential oil. Then there are the fan type and a combination of electric heater and fan. The most efficient one is the aromatherapy nebulizer.
